In memoriam Mariss Jansons

Tickets & ProgrammeAudio & Video
The Concertgebouworkest has given its concerts on 25, 26 and 27 March the title ‘In memoriam Mariss Jansons’ in honour of its beloved former chief conductor. Maestro Jansons was to conduct these concerts himself, but passed away on 1 December 2019. The orchestra is very grateful that Gianandrea Noseda has agreed to take over the task.

Mariss Jansons (1943-2019)

Mariss Jansons was chief conductor of orchestra from 2004 to 2015. Since relinquishing the post of chief conductor in 2015, Mariss Jansons has returned to the Concertgebouworkest each year. He had a close relationship with both the orchestra and its audience.

The programme is partly adapted for the occasion. Instead of Schubert’s Overture in the Italian style, the opening work of the concerts will be the famous Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. The rest of the programme will remain unchanged: Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with concertmaster Vesko Eschkenazy as soloist will be followed by Richard Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra, one of the ‘crown jewels’ on the repertoire of both Mariss Jansons and the Concertgebouworkest.
