The Polish soprano Aga Mikolaj studied with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and was a soloist with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich until 2007.
In addition to singing leading roles in many of Mozart’s operas, she has sung roles in the operas of Wagner and Richard Strauss. Mikolaj has appeared at the Opéra National de Paris, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Glyndebourne Festival. In 2012, she gave her first performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel, singing Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
She appeared in a Berlin Staatsoper–La Scala co-production of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen conducted by Daniel Barenboim, and made an impressive BBC Proms debut in 2013.
Her concert repertoire ranges from Mozart and Beethoven to Penderecki and Szymanowski. Mikolaj is the recipient of numerous prizes, including the Audience Prize and the G.F. Handel Award at the 41st International Vocalists’ Competition in ’s-Hertogenbosch.
In September 2013, she made her first appearance with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem under the direction of Mariss Jansons, standing in at the last moment for Anja Harteros.
