Altinoglu

Conductor

Of Armenian descent and born in Paris, Alain Altinoglu studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris, where he now teaches orchestral conducting.

The French conductor was appointed music director of La Monnaie in Brussels in 2016, which means that he not only leads opera productions there, but is also the chief conductor of the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra.

Altinoglu’s international career has taken off in recent years, with frequent projects at major opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York (a new production of Massenet’s Werther), the Vienna State Opera (e.g. Verdi’s Macbeth), the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London (Mozart’s Don Giovanni) and the Zurich Opera (e.g. Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer), and at the festivals of Bayreuth, Salzburg, Orange and Aix-en-Provence.

Altinoglu has also garnered acclaim for his interpretations of the symphonic repertoire, having made guest appearances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He is making his first appearance with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the 2019–20 season.

In addition to conducting, Altinoglu is also involved in the song repertoire as a pianist, having worked with singers including his wife, mezzo-soprano Nora Gubisch, in both the concert hall and the recording studio.
