Anna Caterina
Antonacci

soprano

Anna Caterina Antonacci was born in Ferrara in 1961 and grew up in Bologna. She studied at the Bologna Conservatory as a mezzo-soprano and made her operatic debut as Rosina in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia in 1986.

In her early career she specialised in works by Rossini, singing roles including Ninetta (La gazza ladra) and Elena (La donna del lago), for which she won widespread acclaim. In the early 2000s Antonacci retrained as a soprano with mezzo-soprano flexibility. She has scored notable success as Cassandre (in Berlioz’s Les Troyens) with Sir John Eliot Gardiner at the Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, and as the title role in Bizet’s Carmen conducted by Antonio Pappano at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, among others. Also revered for her interpretations of Berlioz’s vocal works, performances have included La Mort de Cléopâtre with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Anna Caterina Antonacci debuted with the Concertgebouworkest in October 1992, performing the soprano part in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella conducted by Riccardo Chailly.
