This 2004 recording, featuring a live performance of Dvořák's beloved New World symphony, celebrated both the inauguration of Mariss Jansons as chief conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the debut of the orchestra’s new independent label RCO Live.

The eight release in RCO Live's Horizon series contains two world premieres (co-)commissioned by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra: James MacMillan’s haunting Trombone Concerto, played by our principal trombone player Jörgen van Rijen and new Passion music by the Azerbaijani composer Franghiz Ali-Zadeh. Originally commissioned by Barry Tuckwell, Oliver Knussen’s nocturnal Horn Concerto is here played by our former principal hornist Félix Dervaux.

This recording of Detlev Glanert's Requiem for Hieronymus Bosch in Amsterdam by the Concertgebouw Orchestra embodies in a "magnificent terror" the demonic nature of the paintings by famous painter Jeroen Bosch (ca. 1450-1516).

This performance of Brahms's German Requiem was dedicated to Kurt Sanderling, one of the orchestra's most beloved guest conductors. He passed away the year before and would have turned 100, in September 2012, the month of this recording. It proved to be a very moving performance, a fitting salute to a great conductor.

In March 2010, Bernard Haitink conducted Dmitri Shostakovich's Fifteenth Symphony. The concert was one of the highlights of that season and was broadcast live on radio and television.
