Bernard Haitink conducts Mahler 9

10 August 2018

Honorary conductor Bernard Haitink conducts concerts at the Robeco SummerNights Series and the Lucerne Festival. These concerts were originally scheduled with Daniele Gatti. The orchestra ended its collaboration with chief conductor Gatti on 2 August.

The concerts on 29 August (Robeco SummerNights Series at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam) and 6 September in Lucerne (Lucerne Festival) will be taken over by the orchestra’s honorary conductor Bernard Haitink. The programme has been changed to Mahler’s Symphony No. 9.

Bernard Haitink was appointed honorary conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1999, having served as its chief conductor from 1961 to 1988. Following his tenure as chief conductor, Maestro Haitink has continued to conduct the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra on a regular basis. He last led the orchestra in June 2018 in Mahler’s Symphony No. 9.
