Born into a family of Hungarian descent, Chen Reiss grew up in the Israeli coastal city of Herzliya. At the age of fourteen, she switched from piano to voice, later pursuing her vocal studies in New York.

On the advice of Zubin Mehta, with whom she had worked in her home country, the Israeli soprano launched her career at a German opera house, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. She soon garnered acclaim at many European houses, followed by performances in the US.

Over the last few years, she has sung Sophie in Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel under the direction of Christian Thielemann at the Vienna State Opera and Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam.

In addition to her operatic engagements, Reiss is a busy concert artist, collaborating with such pianists as Charles Spencer and Alexander Schmalcz, and with orchestras including the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. In December 2014, she was invited to sing for Pope Francis during the Christmas Mass, which was broadcast worldwide.

Reiss is making her first solo appearance with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in August/September 2017.
