Born in Bavaria, Christiane Karg studied with Heiner Hopfner and Wolfgang Holzmair at the Salzburg Mozarteum and took part in the Hamburg State Opera International Opera Studio.

From 2008 to 2013, the German soprano was a member of the ensemble of the Oper Frankfurt. While still a student, she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival, where she has been a welcome guest ever since. In recent years, she has also sung Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, the title role of Cavalli’s Calisto with the Bavarian State Opera and Euridice in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice (alongside Juan Diego Flórez) at La Scala in Milan.

As a concert artist, Karg has collaborated with such conductors as Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. She has performed with the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and many other ensembles.

The singer has a special passion for lieder and regularly gives recitals with such pianists as Gerold Huber and Malcom Martineau.

Karg will be making her first guest appearance with the Concertgebouworkest in the 2019–20 season.
