Claudia Mahnke studied singing with Heidi Petzold at the Academy of Music in Dresden. She is recognized internationally in the recent seasons for Wagner roles such as Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde and Fricka in Das Rheingold and Die Walküre at the Bayreuth Festival, Judith in Bartók‘s Bluebeard’s Castle at Staatsoper Hamburg, and both Didon in Berlioz’s Les Troyens and Selika in Meyerbeer’s L’Africaine at Oper Frankfurt.

From 1996 to 2006, the German mezzo-soprano was an ensemble member of Oper Stuttgart, where she developed a broad repertoire, including the title role in Hartmann's Simplicius Simplicissimus, Lucretia in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Miranda in Adès’s The Tempest and  Marguerite in Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust. In August 2006, Ms. Mahnke was appointed Kammersängerin of the Oper Stuttgart.

Other notable past engagements include Kundry in Wagner’s Parsifal at the Staatsoper Hamburg and Iokaste in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex at the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden. She has also performed at the Komische Oper Berlin, the San Francisco Opera and the Opera National de Lyon.

Claudia Mahnke also maintains a broad concert repertoire, including Bach's Mass in B Minor, Penderecki's Credo, Rossini's Petite messe solennelle and Mahler's Kindertotenlieder and Symphony No. 2.
