The Concertgebouworkest is collaborating with three leading Dutch musicians. Jaap van Zweden is conducting Stravinsky’s groundbreaking ballet music Le sacre du printemps, a new work by Martijn Padding and Britten’s Violin Concerto with Simone Lamsma as soloist.

Jaap van Zweden

Having recently assumed the post of music director of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Jaap van Zweden is an ardent advocate of Dutch music. He will be leading the Concertgebouworkest in the world premiere of Martijn Padding’s Softly Bouncing. Another leading Dutch musician will then take to the stage – Simone Lamsma – who is performing Britten’s melancholy Violin Concerto.

Stravinsky’s Le sacre

Stravinsky’s exciting ballet Le sacre du printemps, with its angular, obsessive rhythms and dissonant harmonies, unequivocally marked the death of nineteenth-century Romanticism. Following the riotous 1913 premiere, Le sacre embarked on an unprecedented triumphal procession, one which persists to this day. Thanks to its unparalleled ingenuity, Stravinsky’s compelling masterpiece still sounds fresh and vibrant.
