This special evening is a tribute to New York with works by George Gershwin conducted by the New Yorker Alan Gilbert. The versatile pianist Stefano Bollani brings Gerswin’s Rhapsody in Blue to life.
Alan Gilbert will be conducting the Concertgebouworkest in this intimate programme. With George Gershwin's sweet, swinging and evocative music, the concert is all about the mix of classical and jazz music so typical of New York. Given the major impact the coronavirus is having on New York, the programme is also a show of solidarity for that dynamic musical city.
Stefano Bollani, the pianist who is just as at home performing in jazz clubs as he is in major concert halls, is making a solo appearance in Gershwin’s unbeatable Rhapsody in Blue. The programme also features Gershwin’s swinging Cuban Overture, and Catfish Row, the suite from his innovative opera Porgy and Bess.
