This Essentials concert focuses on two upbeat masterpieces. Handel originally composed his brilliant Music for the Royal Fireworks to be performed at Green Park in London at the official service in 1749 celebrating the Peace of Aix-la-Chapelle, which the work totally eclipsed. It was also in London that Joseph Haydn wrote his ‘Military’ Symphony. Fanfares heard in the trumpets and percussion abound in the second movement.
The conductor is Trevor Pinnock, a welcome guest with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and for decades a unique advocate of works from the Baroque and early Classical periods.
Onstage in the Main Hall, the enthusiastic Flemish presenter Thomas Vanderveken will be providing background information on these eighteenth-century masterpieces in his own unique way. Plus there’s plenty of opportunity to mix and mingle over drinks at the Entrée Café after the concert.
