International youth orchestra prepares for its second edition
After a very successful start, Concertgebouworkest Young is now preparing for its second edition. The unique international youth orchestra is made up of young talented musicians between the ages of fourteen and seventeen and reflects the diversity of Europe. Starting from 1 November 2019 music teachers, conductors of local youth orchestras, school bands and ensembles, as well as other professionals, are invited to nominate talented young musicians for an audition. Audition applications should be submitted before 10 February 2020. All the necessary information can be found at www.concertgebouworkest.nl/en/young.
Concertgebouworkest Young is meant to cater for ‘hidden talent’ - young musicians who need extra support and who are currently under-represented in European orchestras. In August 2019 the first edition presented itself – after the preliminary summer camp – giving two extraordinary concerts conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado at The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Flagey, Brussels.
The second Young summer camp takes place from 5 to 22 August 2020 at Akoesticum, national training centre for music, dance and theatre in the Dutch city of Ede. the young musicians will be participating in an intensive programme of group and orchestral rehearsals, chamber music, coaching sessions and workshops led by professional workshop leaders, and classes given by members of the Concertgebouworkest. The training goes beyond music, though. In collaboration with United World College Netherlands, they will also be attending workshops focusing on personal development, democracy and social responsibility.
Concertgebouworkest Young is only possible thanks to the generous support of funds and donors.
