Constantinos Carydis was born in Athens. He studied piano and music theory at the Athens Conservatory and completed his studies in conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. He is known as a conductor who penetrates the heart of a work with his precise, astute approach.

Carydis’ 2019/20 season was marked by appearances at the BBC Proms in London’s Royal Albert Hall with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, performances of Mozart’s Requiem with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and Salzburg Bach Choir as well as invitations from the Wiener Symphoniker and Filarmonica della Scala. The Greek conductor previously worked with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

As an opera conductor, Constantinos Carydis has worked with companies such as the Bavarian State Opera, Dutch National Opera and Oper Frankfurt as well as at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and Vienna State Opera and at festivals such as the Salzburg Festival and Edinburgh International Festival. In 2011 he was awarded the Carlos Kleiber Prize by the Bavarian State Opera.

In the 2021/22 season, Constantinos Carydis makes his debut with the Concertgebouworkest.
