Mariss Jansons, conductor emeritus
The release of this multi-channel hybrid SACD, featuring a live performance of Dvořák's beloved New World symphony, marked both the inauguration of Mariss Jansons as chief conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the debut of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra’s new independent label RCO Live in September 2004.
The combination of the famous acoustics of the glorious Main Hall of the Concertgebouw, the rich sound and intense playing of the orchestra and Mariss Jansons’ warm, emotive interpretation of Dvořák's masterpiece sets the standard for what turned out to be one of the most exciting new labels to come along in years.
Recorded live at Concertgebouw Amsterdam on 6 June 2003.
