Born in 1953, Gerda Ockers studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Vera Badings and Edward Witsenburg. While still a student, she was appointed harpist with the Nederlands Balletorkest. She joined the Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1981.
Gerda Ockers plays a Horngacher harp which is provided in loan via RCO Foundation. She still thinks the harp is the most beautiful instrument in the orchestra.
