On Thursday 11, Friday 12 and Sunday 14 October 2018, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra will perform Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem. Unfortunately, conductor emeritus Mariss Jansons has had to cancel the concerts due to health reasons. The orchestra is very grateful that Gianandrea Noseda has agreed to step in at short notice. Maestro Noseda will make his debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra with a work he has championed and for which he has received critical acclaim in performances with the London Symphony Orchestra both in concert and on record. He has conducted at the Concertgebouw on several occasions since 1996, most recently last month leading the European Union Youth Orchestra.

Joining the orchestra in the Main Hall of The Concertgebouw will be the Netherlands Radio Choir, the Flemish Radio Choir, the Netherlands Children’s Choir and three renowned soloists: soprano Elena Stikhina, tenor Mark Padmore and baritone Michael Volle.

Gianandrea Noseda has been Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.  since the 2017/18 season. He also serves as Principal Guest Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Noseda previously led the BBC Philharmonic from 2002 through 2011 and from 2007 until 2018 served as Music Director of the Teatro Regio Torino.

He was recently appointed General Music Director of the Zurich Opera House beginning with the 2021 – 2022 season. Maestro Noseda works with leading opera houses and orchestras worldwide, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic,  Cleveland Orchestra, Teatro alla Scala, Munich Philharmonic,  New York Philharmonic,  NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Philadelphia Orchestra,  Royal Opera House (UK), and Vienna Symphony. Noseda has a cherished relationship with the Metropolitan Opera dating back to 2002 with performances broadcast on radio and in movie theaters worldwide, as well as released on DVD.

His discography numbers over 50 recordings and DVDs on labels including Chandos and Deutsche Grammophon. A native of Milan, Maestro Noseda is Cavaliere Ufficiale al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. In 2015, he was honored as Musical America’s Conductor of the Year, and was named the 2016 International Opera Awards Conductor of the Year.
