Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Side by Side with youth orchestra in Bucharest
On Sunday, 24 September, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and chief conductor Daniele Gatti will give a concert at the 2017 George Enescu Festival in Bucharest. Concertmaster Liviu Prunaru, who was born in Romania, is the soloist in Enescu’s rarely performed Caprice Roumain. After the intermission, Maestro Gatti will conduct Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5.
The concert at the Sala Mare a Palatului is part of the orchestra’s tour to all 28 member states of the European Union, RCO meets Europe. A much lauded part of RCO meets Europe is Side by Side: in each EU country, one opening work is performed together with members of a local youth orchestra. In Bucharest, the RCO will share the stage with members of the Romanian National Youth Orchestra in a performance of Weber's Overture to Euryanthe.
