Alder

soprano

Born into a musical family in London, Louise Alder studied voice with Patricia MacMahon at the University of Edinburgh. In 2010, she went on to continue her training at the Royal College of Music International Opera School where she was the first to graduate as a Kiri Te Kanawa Scholar in 2013.

She has won several prizes at competitions, including the Dame Joan Sutherland Audience Prize at the 2017 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.

The English soprano has been a member of the Oper Frankfurt ensemble since 2014, where she recently sang Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen, to name but a few roles. She has also put in performances at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the Welsh National Opera and the Royal Opera.

Alder also enjoys singing lieder and concert repertoire, having given lieder recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall and Cadogan Hall, accompanied by Gary Matthewman, James Baillieu, Helmut Deutsch and Joseph Middleton.

Alder will be making her first appearance with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the 2019–20 season.
