Lucía Mateo Calvo was born in Granada (Spain) in 1994. She started double bass lessons at the age of eight years old. When she was fifteen she got a scholarship from the orchestra of her home city.
After obtaining her bachelor´s degree with Ximo Clemente Riera at the conservatory of Castilla y León, she was accepted by the Conservatorium van Amsterdam for the master program with Olivier Thiery and Rick Stotijn.
Since 2014 Lucía has been a member of both the European Union Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Spain. As academist she has been playing with Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed with the Symphony Orchestra of Castilla y León, the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Since she moved to Amsterdam, Lucía Mateo Calvo has collaborated with Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.
Lucía has had the opportunity to work with conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Herbert Blomstedt, Jaap van Zweden, Vasily Petrenko, Gianadrea Noseda, Xian Zhang, George Pelivanian, Eliahu Inbal and Juanjo Mena.
