The English conductor Daniel Harding made his conducting debut in 1994 with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, serving as assistant to Sir Simon Rattle during that season. The following season, he assisted Claudio Abbado and gave his first performance with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. After serving as chief conductor of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Harding now holds the positions of principal guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, music director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and conductor laureate of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Harding works regularly with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Dresden. As an opera conductor, he has made guest appearances at Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera and La Scala in Milan. Harding was made a Chevalier in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture in 2002 and was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2012.
