In June and July 2017, he Swedish soprano Malin Byström impressed audiences and critics alike with her first Salome under the baton of Daniele Gatti with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Malin Byström studied at the University College of Opera in Stockholm. She performed at Teatro alla Scala, the Komische Oper Berlin, the BBC Proms, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and at the festivals of Salzburg and Aix en Provence. Her opera roles include Romilda in Händel’s Serse at the Royal Swedish Opera, Fiordiligi with William Christie in Lyon, München and London, Marguerite in Christoph Loy’s acclaimed production of Gounod’s Faust in Göteborg, New York and London, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, the title role in Massenet’s Thaïs at the Göteborg Opera and in Valencia (opposite Plácido Domingo) and Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro.
On the concert platform Malin Byström has sung Mendelssohn’s Elias, Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 and Missa solemnis, Mahler’s Symphony no 4, Grieg’s Peer Gynt, Mozart’s C Minor Mass and Richard Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder, with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Recent highlights include Donna Elvira and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, her San Francisco Opera debut with the title role of Jenůfa, her first Desdemona in Otello at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and Mathilde in Rossini's Guillaume Tell at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
