de Groot

second violin

Born in the Dutch city of Bergen op Zoom in 1956, Marc de Groot started playing the violin at the age of nine. His father, who was a musician, wanted to provide his children with some form of music education and suggested he take up the instrument.

Marc de Groot studied with Simon Kooke and Herman Krebbers at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he obtained a degree in performance, graduating with honours in 1981.

De Groot then worked as a substitute with various Dutch orchestras before joining the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1984.

He plays a violin built by Louis Guersan.
