violin - academy 2019/2020

Born in 1996, Marlene Dijkstra started taking violin lessons when she was four years old. At the age of fourteen, she was admitted to the Young Talent Class at the Prince Claus Conservatory with Sonja van Beek, going on to study with Coosje Wijzenbeek and Veselina Manikova. She is currently studying with Vera Beths at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She has participated in masterclasses with Philippe Graffin, Raphaël Oleg, Gérard Poulet, Emmy Verhey, Roland Daugareil, Gyorgy Pauk and Liviu Prunaru.

A recipient of various prizes at the Princess Christina Competition, Dijkstra won the 2014 regional finals and placed in the national semi-finals. She was awarded a grant in 2015 to participate in the summer programme at the Conservatoire américain de Fontainebleau.

An active chamber musician, Dijkstra has performed as a member of the Haydn Youth String Orchestra and the Fancy Fiddlers. She is first violinist of the Helikon Quartet, which is coached at the Netherlands String Quartet Academy and which has previously taken part in masterclasses with Eberhard Feltz, the Cuarteto Quiroga, the Chilingirian Quartet and Quatuor Danel.

Dijkstra has served as leader of the National Youth Orchestra and has performed in halls throughout Europe as a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra. She has made solo appearances with Filharmonie Noord and Groninger Studentenorkest Mira.
