Fossas Mallorqui

double bass - academy 2019/2020

Born in 1996, Marta Fossas Mallorquí took her first double bass lesson at the age of seven at the public music school of Girona, Spain. At the age of eighteen, she moved to Essen in Germany to study at the Folkwang University of the Arts with Niek de Groot and Olivier Thiery. She graduated in 2018 and is currently studying for her master’s degree with Olivier Thiery and Felix Lashmar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She took lessons with Matthew McDonald, Rick Stotijn, Wies de Boève and Nicky Schwartz, among others.

Since 2007 Marta Fossas Mallorquí has been playing in youth orchestras such as the National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia (JONC), the European Youth Orchestra and the orchestra of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Academy. As an academist she has played with the Essener Philharmoniker, Het Gelders Orkest and the Orkest van het Oosten. She has performed with the Concertgebouworkest, the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, the Orquestra de Cadaqués and Les Dissonances. Since she moved to Amsterdam, Marta has also collaborated with both the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a chamber musician she had the opportunity to work with musicians such as Quartet Casals, Quartet Gerhard and BandArt.
