The Academy of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra has successfully moulded talented, young musicians into orchestral players of the highest calibre for nearly twenty years. A partnership with the Academy of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra was established in 2019. The unique link between the academies of these two leading orchestras has since resulted in multiple exchanges. The partnership is being taken one step further with a joint concert at the Isarphilharmonie in Munich on 26 March at 7.00 p.m.

After four days of masterclasses and joint rehearsals, students of the academies of the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will be performing together under the direction of Daniel Harding. The programme features Wagner’s ‘Siegfried-Idyll’, Purcell’s Three Consorts in a new transcription for chamber orchestra by the British composer George Benjamin and Richard Strauss’s suite Der Bürger als Edelmann. Ulrike Niehoff, the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s artistic director, will be attending the concert.

Two Academy students are travelling to Munich a few days early to play in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra starting from 21 March. Violist Clara Petit and double bassist Pedro de Elvas Raposo will be performing in Thomas Adès’s The Exterminating Angel Symphony and Richard Strauss’s Eine Alpensinfonie on 24 and 25 March, also under the baton of Daniel Harding.

The Academy of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is fully funded by Foundation Concertgebouworkest, which sources donations from such entities as Ammodo, the Dutch Masters Foundation, the Swiss Friends of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Don Quixote Foundation, De Salon, private donors and a number of commemorative funds.
