Peter
Steinmann

horn

Born in the Dutch town of Brunssum in 1954, Peter Steinmann studied horn with Adriaan van Woudenberg at the Maastricht Conservatory.

Before joining the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1976, he was a member of the Residentie Orchestra and the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the forerunner of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.

Steinmann has twice been a member of a horn quartet performing Schumann's Concert Piece for four horns and orchestra, under the direction of Riccardo Chailly and Gerd Albrecht respectively.

He has frequently performed as a chamber musician with the founders of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Amsterdam Bach Soloists.

In the capacity of adviser, Steinmann is closely involved in the ‘Classical in the Classroom’ project of the Learning Orchestra, based in the south-eastern part of Amsterdam, and firmly believes in passing down a love of classical music to future generations.

Since October 2013, Peter Steinmann also develops musical activities for the elderly, in particular persons with Alzheimer's disease.
