Her Majesty Queen Máxima paid a work visit to the Royal Concertgebouworkest on 2 June. Having served as the orchestra’s patron since 2005, the Queen regularly attends concerts in and outside the Netherlands and sits in on rehearsals. The orchestra also accompanies the Dutch royal family on state visits, as it did on the 2011 visit to Germany. This is the first visit Queen Máxima has paid the Concertgebouworkest’s new premises at the Gabriël Metsustraat in Amsterdam since it moved there in January 2019. It also gave the Queen a chance to meet the orchestra’s new management team.

Topics discussed with the management team included the activities undertaken by the Concertgebouworkest during the coronavirus pandemic and the orchestra’s future plans. The Queen was then updated on the orchestra’s educational activities, including the Concertgebouworkest Young youth orchestra. Managing Director Dominik Winterling gave Her Majesty a tour of the monumental building where the orchestra’s premises are located in Gabriël Metsustraat. The Queen visited the office spaces, the rehearsal studios and the Amsterdam Hall, where a string quartet made up of members of the orchestra was making a concert recording. During the tour, the Queen spoke with orchestral musicians, staff members and one young participant in the Academy of the Concertgebouworkest. Marketing and Sales Manager Wietske Kuiper also talked about the exceptionally good start to subscription sales for the coming season.
