Tareq
Nazmi

bass

Born in Kuwait, Tareq Nazmi grew up in Germany. He studied voice with Edith Wiens and Christian Gerhaher at the Munich Hochschule für Musik und Theater and participated in masterclasses with Matthias Goerne, Dmitri Hvorostovski, Malcolm Martineau and Rudolf Piernay.

The bass gained his first professional experience on the opera stage at the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera and subsequently joined that house’s ensemble. Here Nazmi has sung Caronte in Monteverdi's Orfeo, Don Fernando in Beethoven’s Fidelio, Truffaldino in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, in addition to many other roles.

As a guest soloist, he sang Bottom in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Theater an der Wien.

Recent concert highlights include appearances in Verdi’s Requiem conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner at Zurich’s Tonhalle and Mozart’s Don Giovanni on tour with the Freiburger Barockorchester under the direction of René Jacobs. The bass is giving an increasing number of lieder recitals, having performed with pianist Gerold Huber at London’s Wigmore Hall and at the Schubertiade in Hohenems.

Nazmi will be making his first appearance with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the 2019–20 season.
