Conductor

The dynamic conductor Vladimir Jurowski is known the world over for his musical precision and artistic adventurousness. Born in Moscow, he studied at the conservatory there, going on to complete his studies in Dresden and Berlin.

In 1995, Jurowski made his international debut at the Wexford Festival conducting Rimsky-Korsakov’s Mayskaya noch, immediately followed by a production of Verdi’s Nabucco at Covent Garden. He was appointed principal guest conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2003, where he has served as principal conductor since 2007. He also holds the post of music director of the Russian National Orchestra and – since 2015 – of the George Enescu Festival. He has previously held the positions of First Kapellmeister of the Komische Oper Berlin (1997-2000) and Music Director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera (2001-2013). In 2017 he was appointed principal conductor and musical director of the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin.

Jurowski makes regular guest appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Since his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2006 he is a regular guest. Most recently in November 2014, when he conducted the world premiere of Michel van der Aa’s Violin Concerto, soloist Janine Jansen, alongside works by Debussy, Janáček, Lyadov and Stravinsky.
