Klaus Mäkelä to conduct Christmas matinee 2020

18 December 2020

The Christmas Matinee 2020 will proceed with a modified programme conducted by Klaus Mäkelä.

Fabio Luisi, who was scheduled to lead the Christmas Matinee, unfortunately has had to cancel after he was tested positive for covid-19, obliging him to stay isolated for ten days. In addition, tenor Piero Pretti has had to cancel his performance due to (non-corona-related) illness.

The Concertgebouworkest is extremely happy to announce Klaus Mäkelä was found willing to conduct the Christmas Matinee 2020 on 25 December at such short notice. The Finnish conductor will be leading the orchestra in two absolute masterpieces, Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral’ Symphony and Debussy’s La mer.

The Christmas Matinee is broadcast by AVROTROS on 25 December via Dutch national radio station NPO Radio 4 (at 2 p.m. CET) and on television via NPO2 (at 3 p.m. CET). Outside the Netherlands, the concert is streamed on 26 December through the link below.
