This concert, part of the genre-crossing Bijlmer Klassiek series, has fairy tales as a theme, with imaginative and melodious music brought together by flautist and composer Ronald Snijders and Concertgebouw Orchestra contrabass player Felix Lashmar.
About this concert
Fables and fairy tales are passed down through generations. Born in Paramaribo, flautist, composer and writer Ronald Snijders would have heard the famous adventures of Anansi the spider countless times as a child. He’ll join forces with the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s English contrabassist Felix Lashmar in the Bijlmer Parktheater. Along with other musicians, they’ll play a programme of composed and improvised music that evokes the wondrous worlds in these stories.
In addition to the catchy, lively music by Ronald Snijders, the musicians will play an arrangement of his father Eddy Snijders’ ballet Anansi torie. And fairy-tale characters like Sleeping Beauty and Thumbelina will come to life in Ravel’s Mother Goose (Ma mère l’Oye).
Bijlmer Klassiek
The Bijlmer Klassiek series is where a diversity of musical styles meet and interact. Musicians from all sorts of genres and all sorts of backgrounds work closely with members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The result is a series of extraordinary concerts that open up new horizons every season.
The last concert in this season’s Bijlmer Klassiek series will take place on Sunday 31 May at 11:00 a.m. This concert’s curators are Concertgebouw Orchestra flautist Julie Moulin and soprano and musical theatre artist Nienke Nasserian.
