Musicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States in the Recital Hall.
About this concert
The US Declaration of Independence was signed 250 years ago. With its emphasis on freedom and equality, it set an example for many other democracies. This Close-up concert features Barber’s String Quartet, with its world-famous Adagio, and Copland’s rarely heard Sextet . Bernstein’s Clarinet Sonata is now part of the standard repertoire. Caroline Shaw is well remembered here from her residency at the Concertgebouw in the 2024–25 season. Henk de Vlieger has arranged Gershwin’s An American in Paris for sextet.
Musicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra perform their own programmes in the Recital Hall as part of the Close-up chamber music series. Each of these concerts is unique and performed only once as part of the series. It’s the very best way to experience the individual qualities of the orchestral musicians! These intimate concerts are organised by the Friends of the Concertgebouw and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
