With Dvořák’s fairytale opera, Mallwitz will be making her first appearance with the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
About this concert
Water nymphs, a wicked witch and a handsome prince – Rusalka has it all. Yet it was only the ‘Song to the Moon’ from this lyrical fairy tale which would become world-famous. That’s a shame, since the enchanting music plays the real leading role in Dvořák’s opera. Unfortunately, the complete work is rarely heard outside the Czech Republic.
So it’s a stroke of luck that the Concertgebouw Orchestra is now performing it in its entirety at the Dutch National Opera, in a staging by Philipp Stölzl. Joana Mallwitz will be conducting this new production. The German conductor made her professional debut at the age of twenty leading a production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly , which marked the beginning of an unbelievably successful career which now takes her all over the world. In 2019, Opernwelt named her ‘Conductor of the Year’. With Rusalka , Mallwitz will also be making her first appearance with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. Magical!
