Come to the Amsterdam Hall at Museum Square for a special Keti Koti chamber music concert! Musicians from the Concertgebouw Orchestra will perform music by Surinamese composers.
About this concert
The Concertgebouw Orchestra commemorates Keti Koti with music from the colonial era which is very rarely heard. Musicians from the orchestra perform songs by Johannes Nicolaas Helstone (1853–1927), one of the most important Surinamese composers, who was born and raised under slavery. You will also hear the beautiful, compelling String Quartet by his colleague and contemporary Theodor Neumann-Cordua (1860–1911), and the romantic Sonata for violin and piano in D major by Aleidus Coenen (1877–1962), a composer from Vlissingen who felt a strong connection to Surinam.
This concert is made possible thanks to the Helstone Fund.
