A groundbreaking music performance at de Gashouder: Tan Dun leads the world premiere of his Requiem for Nature for orchestra, choir, and soloists from several regions in East-Asia.

In collaboration with its creative partner Pierre Audi and the composer–conductor Tan Dun, the Concertgebouw Orchestra is presenting the world premiere of Tan Dun’s Requiem for Nature with choir and soloists, a groundbreaking musical performance as part of the Holland Festival.
Tan Dun ensures that virtuosity and innovation go hand in hand with spirituality, reflection and enticing orchestral music. He will be conducting the Concertgebouw Orchestra in the world premiere of his newly commissioned Requiem for Nature. In this colourful and theatrical work, ancient stories intertwine to pose the one big question: how can we restore the relationship between nature and humankind? In addition to the Rotterdam-based choir Laurens Vocaal, the performance will feature Mongolian throat singer Hasibagen, who also plays the morin khuur or 'horse-head fiddle', Tibetan singer Jiangfan Yong, soprano Candice Chung from Hong Kong, and Chinese pipa player, Han Yan.
Pierre Audi, creative partner of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, will take inspiration from both the music and the theatrical space of the Gashouder. Tan Dun has worked with the acclaimed director on several occasions, and always with phenomenal results.
