Performers

About this concert

For many years now, Concertgebouworkest musicians have been performing their own programmes in the Recital Hall. The intimate concerts in the Close-up chamber music series are organised by the Friends of the Concertgebouw and the Concertgebouworkest. The concerts performed here are given only once and can be heard nowhere else!

In this Close-up concert, the tuba takes centre stage. The orchestra’s principal tuba player Perry Hoogendijk is teaming up with seven of his Concertgebouworkest colleagues to perform an exciting programme featuring many works you’ve probably never heard before. Stately Baroque music by Johann Ernst Galliard is followed by a virtuoso modern work about a troll and Lundquist’s evocative Landskap for tuba, piano and strings. Perry Hoogendijk’s colleague, double bassist Rob Dirksen, composed the solo work entitled The Tube. In Grab It! by Jacob ter Veldhuis (aka JacobTV), the tuba undertakes a musical duel with the voices of prisoners who have been sentenced to death. The concert concludes with Daniel Schnyder’s jazzy Zoom In.
