Concert for an audience with negative Covid-19 tests with works by Schubert, Ligeti and Mendelssohn
On Saturday evening, 19 June, the Royal Concertgebouworkest concludes its 2020-21 season with two concerts conducted by Gustavo Gimeno. A year ago, the restart of the Concertgebouworkest after the first lockdown also took place under his direction. Part of a nationally organised series of pilot concerts and events aimed at a safe and phased reopening of the cultural sector, the concerts on 19 June take place at 7 and 9.15 p.m. CEST for an audience of 425 each, based on 1.5 metre distance between households. The second concert is to be streamed live though concertgebouworkest.nl, YouTube and Facebook.
The programme contains Schubert’s Overture ‘in Italian Style’, D.590, Ligeti’s Concert Românesc and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, ‘Italian’. Ticket sales start at 10 a.m. CEST on Friday 4 June via www.concertgebouworkest.nl.
For the 7 p.m. concert, the Concertgebouworkest has invited donors, sponsors and other relations whose support has been of particular importance for the orchestra in recent months. All visitors of both concerts must be in possession of a negative corona test result which is not older than forty hours at the moment the concert starts. Visitors will be offered a free rapid test at a designated test location. All information may be found on the website testenvoortoegang.nl.
The Concertgebouworkest is able to stream its concert programmes free of charge thanks to the generous support of donors and sponsors. Information about supporting the orchestra may be found at concertgebouworkest.nl/en/private-donations.
