Jakub Hrůša

Born in the Czech city of Brno, Jakub Hrůša studied with Jiří Bělohlávek and others at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague he studied with maestros such as. In 2003, even before graduating, he won the 3rd International Competition of Young Conductors Lovro von Matačić in Zagreb.

Jakub Hrůša is Chief Conductor of Bamberg Symphony, Principal Guest Conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra, Permanent Guest Conductor of the Czech Philharmonic, Principal Guest Conductor of Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and served as Music Director and Chief Conductor of Prague Philharmonia from 2009-2015.

As a guest conductor he is in high demand with orchestras including the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra and the symphony orchestras of Boston, Chicago, Dallas and Houston. His BBC Proms debut in Augustus 2017 was highly praised.

At the Glyndebourne Festival, he successfully led productions of Bizet’s Carmen, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Britten’s The Turn of the Screw and Puccini's La bohème.

In 2015, Jakub Hrůša made his convincing debut with the Concertgebouworkest with works by Shostakovich, Janáček and Smetana. He returned in April 2018, conducting works by Beethoven, Prokofjev and Kodály.
