Between 15 and 22 February, 2023, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra will perform concerts in five European cities under the baton of Paavo Järvi. The programme,  Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with Lisa Batiashvili as soloist followed by Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony, will first be performed at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw on 15 and 16 February. The orchestra will then go on tour, visiting the Konzerthaus in Vienna on 19 February, the Alte Oper Frankfurt on the 20th, the Philharmonie de Paris on the 21st, and the Auditorium in Lyon on 22 February.

While the Concertgebouw Orchestra will be performing in Lyon for the first time, it has been a very regular visitor in Vienna, Frankfurt and Paris for many years.

On Friday, 17 February, the orchestra will also perform Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony in Amsterdam as part of its successful Essentials series for a younger and less experienced audience, where the concert is preceded by an introduction by Thomas Vanderveken.

Both conductor Paavo Järvi and violinist Lisa Batiashvili are well-loved guests with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. Järvi, who recently celebrated his sixtieth birthday, has regularly conducted the orchestra since 2004, notably during an extensive tour of Japan and Taiwan in November 2019. The orchestra has had a close relationship with Batiashvili since 2001; the violinist was the orchestra’s artist in residence during the 2016-17 season.
