Kirill Petrenko will be conducting the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra on 22 and 23 June 2023. Ten years after his impressive first appearance with the orchestra, the widely praised music director of the Berlin Philharmonic will return to conduct Alban Berg’s Drei Orchesterstücke, Op. 6, and Béla Bartók’s The Wooden Prince – not the orchestra suite which is usually performed, but the complete ballet score. The concerts will mark the second time the orchestra will perform The Wooden Prince after the first two performances under the baton of Iván Fischer in 2001.

Kirill Petrenko is one of the leading conductors of our time. After his education in Vienna – born in Omsk, he has been an Austrian citizen since he was eighteen – his reputation grew while he stood at the helm of the Meininger Staatstheater and the Komische Oper Berlin. In January 2013, he made his Concertgebouw Orchestra debut. That same year, he became music director of the Bavarian State Opera. Two years later he was appointed music director of the Berlin Philharmonic, succeeding Simon Rattle in 2019.

The concert of Friday, 23 June will be broadcast by AVROTROS via Dutch National Radio channel NPO Klassiek on Sunday, 2 July, at 2 p.m.
