On 8 September, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra released a CD box on its own RCO Live label, featuring previous radio recordings of Anton Bruckner’s Symphonies Nos. 1 to 9 under the direction of such conductors as Bernard Haitink, Riccardo Chailly, Eugen Jochum and Mariss Jansons. The oldest recording dates from 1972 (Bruckner's Symphony No. 1 under Haitink), the most recent one is from 2012 (Jansons conducting No. 6). The Bruckner box, containing a booklet with a text by Dirk Luijmes, is available at all well-known CD dealers and webshops for 50 euros.

The Concertgebouw Orchestra is world famous for its Bruckner tradition since the 1930s. The new CD release anticipates a new symphonic cycle, kicking off in December 2023. To mark the 200th anniversary of Anton Bruckner’s birth in September 2024, the orchestra will perform all nine numbered symphonies within a year and a half under the direction of nine expert conductors, each one bringing his or her own unique perspective. Honorary guest conductor Iván Fischer will set the ball rolling in December 2023 with the Third Symphony.
