Audience members to sit among Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra musicians during concert

On Thursday, 5 October 2023, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra will give two concerts with music by French composers under the direction of honorary guest conductor Iván Fischer. For these ‘Inside Out’ concerts, the orchestra members sit in the centre of the Main Hall, grouped around the conductor, with a large part of the audience interspersed among them, others sitting in a circle around the orchestra. Thus, the audience will experience orchestral msuic from inside. In February 2023, the orchestra’s first Inside Out concert with Iván Fischer was extremely successful. 

 

This time the Inside Out programme features colourful works by French composers: Debussy’s early Printemps, two works by Satie in orchestrations by Debussy and Poulenc, and Ravel’s Suite No. 2 from the ballet Daphnis et Chloé. The concerts start at 7 p.m. and 9.15 p.m., respectively, and last a little over an hour. There is no interval. 

 

On Wednesday 4, Friday 6 and Sunday 8 October, Iván Fischer will conduct the orchestra on stage as usual. The programme then has an interval and is longer, starting with two works by Mendelssohn, the Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture and the Violin Concerto featuring James Ehnes, who will be making his debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
