Andrea Sanguineti is an Italian conductor widely recognised for his work in opera and symphonic repertoire. Trained in piano and composition at the Conservatory of Genoa, he went on to study conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, where he graduated in orchestral conducting.
Sanguineti began his professional career as a répétiteur at the Opéra National du Rhin before making his conducting debut in 2008 with the Staatsorchester Hannover. He subsequently held positions as chief conductor of the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg and General Music Director of the Theater Görlitz and the Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie. Since the 2023–24 season, Andrea Sanguineti has been Generalmusikdirektor of the Aalto‑Theater Essen and the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra, where he has attracted critical acclaim for opera productions including Wagner’s Parsifal, Puccini’s Tosca, and Verdi operas including Aida and La forza del destino.
As a guest conductor, Andrea Sanguineti has appeared with orchestras including the Gürzenich‑Orchester Köln, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Symphony Orchestra. He makes his first appearance with the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
