Born in Hanover, conductor, pianist and organist Aurel Dawidiuk has been establishing himself as one of the most exciting and versatile musicians of his generation. In the 2026-27 season he will start his tenure as General Music Director of the Bochumer Symphoniker.
As the first Bernard Haitink associate conductor in the history of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Dawidiuk collaborates with the orchestra on approximately half the concert programmes during the 2024–25 and the 2025–26 seasons. He assists leading conductors in Amsterdam and on tour, works with orchestra musicians in ensemble formations and is involved with talent development. In April 2026, Dawidiuk will conduct two subscription concerts.
Dawidiuk began his musical education when he was six years old playing the piano and the violin. In 2014 he began piano studies in Hanover and organ studies in Detmold. Since 2020, Dawidiuk has been studying orchestral conducting with Johannes Schlaefli and Christoph-Mathias Mueller as well as piano with Till Fellner at the Zurich University of the Arts, as well as continuing his organ studies with Martin Sander at the Basel Music Academy.
He attended masterclasses with Paavo Järvi, Jaap van Zweden, Joana Mallwitz and Pierre-André Valade and has conducted the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Kammerorchester Basel, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and the Nürnberger Symphoniker.
In 2021 he was admitted to the Forum Dirigieren of the German Music Council. In 2023, he won the Neeme Järvi Prize at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival as well as a total of four prizes at the Hans von Bülow Competition in Meiningen, including the first prize in the ‘conducting from the piano’ category and the audience prize.
