Thanks to his mentor Jean Ané, principal double bassist of the Montpellier Orchestra, Charles Cavailhac discovered the pleasure of music at a very young age and developed a passion for the double bass. He began playing at the age of six on a remodeled cello. In 2021, Charles enrolled in the Lyon Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Cédric Carlier.
Other musicians who inspired him are Bernard Cazauran, Théotime Voisin, Nicolas Cross and Olivier Thiery, with whom he takes lessons and participates in workshops and masterclasses.
Although Charles has participated in numerous solo competitions and won a number of first prizes, which certainly contributed to his virtuosity and interpretative strength, he has a real penchant for ensemble playing. At the age of eight, he joined the National Orchestra of Small Hands Symphonic, performing in France and abroad, before his decisive encounter with the Orchestre Français des Jeunes. Being a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra confirmed his vocation as an orchestral musician.
For several years, he has regularly provided replacements for the Opéra Orchestre national Montpellier and the Orchestre de Paris.
