Jonny Hayward is an Irish double bassist acknowledged for his versatility and instrumental skill. He started playing bass at the age of ten and has been heavily involved in youth orchestras across Ireland and the United Kingdom, earning himself a place in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 2021.
His professional orchestral debut was in 2022, when he performed Sibelius’ Third Symphony with the Ulster Orchestra. Recent highlights include performances with the London Symphony Orchestra, and trials at Ulster Orchestra (for co-principal) and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
Having enrolled in the Royal Academy of Music in 2022, Jonny has been active as a musician across Greater London and beyond. He regularly performs with the London Concertante, playing chamber concerts in cathedrals across the United Kingdom.
He’s also established himself as a member of Nonesuch Orchestra, which takes pride in playing underperformed chamber music, both in concert and in highly valued school workshops across London. Jonny recently made his solo debut with the orchestra performing Missy Mazzoli’s Dark with Excessive Bright.
Jonny is a also skilled distance runner, enjoys outdoor swimming, and likes to play Irish folk music as a cellist.
