Born in Portugal, Leandro Antunes began playing the trombone at the age of nine, and enrolled in the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian in his hometown Braga. He pursued a bachelor’s degree at Lisbon’s Escola Superior de Música and went on to complete a master’s degree in Performance under the guidance of Martin Schippers at the Lucerne Univerity of Applied Schiences and Arts, graduating with the highest mark.
Leandro has performed with orchestras across Europe, including the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, where he was a member of the academy, as well as Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn and the Casa da Música’s Remix Ensemble in Porto.
He has participated in masterclasses with many leading musicians, including Joseph Alessi, Ian Bousfield, Ben van Dijk, James Markey, and Jonas Bylund.
A prizewinner in numerous national and international competitions, he was awarded first prize at the 2025 Philip Jones Brass Competition as well as prizes at the Quartet Competition of Germany’s International Piano Forum and several competitions in Portugal.
