Born in Okayama, Japan, Otoha Tabata made her solo debut in London at the age of ten. She has since been performing across the globe and has received international awards, including third prizes at the 2024 Brahms International Competition and the 2021 Windsor Festival International String Competition. In 2025 the violist received the Grand Prix Arts and Culture Award from Okayama prefecture.
Tabata has performed at festivals such as Heidelberger Frühling, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the Kronberg Academy's Chamber Music Connects the World, and the Seiji Ozawa International Academy. In 2021 she received the Special Prize of Merit from the Verbier Festival Academy.
She was a member of the LGT Young Soloists, and from 2023 through 2025 was an Academy member of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. In Fabruary 2025 Tabata joined the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Having entered the Yehudi Menuhin School at the age of ten, in 2024 Tabata received her bachelor's and master's degree with first class honours from the Royal College of Music. She has pursued durther studies privately with Nobuko Imai. During her studies at the Royal College of Music, Tabata was invited to perform for King Charles III at Clarence House, and for His Majesty the Emperor of Japan during his state visit to the United Kingdom.
Otoha Tabata's career has been supported by the ROHM Music Foundation and the Japanese government's Agency for Cultural Affairs.
