Masterpieces every music lover should know: three concerts on Friday or Saturday evenings
Three concerts on Friday or Saturday evenings at 9.00 p.m. Get to know essential, unmissable symphonic masterpieces by Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Richard Strauss, performed by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and introduced by the incomparable and dynamic presenter Thomas Vanderveken. Plus there’s plenty of opportunity to mix and mingle over drinks at the Entrée Café after the concert.
Richard Strauss dedicated his Ein Heldenleben to the Concertgebouw Orchestra when it was only ten years old. The work represents a high point in the development of the symphonic poem and has been one of the orchestra’s signature pieces for many years. Naturally, it was only a matter of time before it would be performed on the Essentials Series, and now, the time has come! Anyone who has heard chief conductor Daniele Gatti conduct the music of Strauss before knows that this is sure to be a very special event.
The chief conductor is also leading the orchestra in Johannes Brahms’s sparkling Second Symphony. Plus, you won’t want to miss an evening imbued with the Romantic atmosphere of Russia, featuring Tchaikovsky’s ultra-Romantic Fifth Symphony under the direction of conductor Dima Slobodeniouk, who is making his first appearance with the orchestra.
